LIBERAL SENATOR RECKONS GAY MARRIAGE WILL LEAD TO CHILD MARRIAGE

Citing zero evidence besides his own sense of self-righteousness and bigotry, Liberal Senator David Fawcett has today compared recognising same-sex marriages to recognising forced marriages in which one partner is underage.
“Australian law is clear,” he said in Parliament, “Marriage is between a man and a woman. The law doesn’t recognise marriages of people… [which] were entered into without the consent of both partners, or marriages that involve underage individuals.”
“If we start making changes [to] or sovereign law in the interest of one group, then why not the other group.
Fawcett’s comments came during a Senate debate over a bill, proposed by the Greens, that seeks to recognise same-sex couples married overseas.
As things stand, NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Tassie recognise the validity of overseas same-sex marriage, whilst Western Australia and South Australia don’t. Go East Coast!
The bill would make such legal recognition a federal law.
Fawcett has form in his outspoken opposition of marriage equality. “I find it disturbing when I see attempts to silence those who hold a different view,” he said in November 2015, a line you hear a lot from those opposed to same sex marriage. Curiously, nobody was shouting the Honourable Senator down and telling him to shut the hell up when he made the comments.
Of course, our good friend Corey Bernadi got in on the act today also, bringing out the tried and tested “if we allow gay marriage, why not polygamy” argument.
“You could go to Saudi Arabia or some of the Islamic countries where it’s legal for a man to marry four wives. Should we be expected to recognise that?”
