Former ISIS sex slaves take revenge on their captors by forming military brigade

Since running rampant through Iraq and Syria, ISIS fighters have taken thousands of women as sex slaves, many of whom commit suicide or are executed.

Now, in what seems like one of Quentin Tarantino’s latter-day revenge fantasy films, a brigade made up entirely of former Yazidi sex slaves has taken up arms and is bringing the fight to ISIS. Calling themselves the “Force of the Sun Ladies”, the group has already seen battle, fighting alongside the Kurdish army to take back the city of Sinjar.

At least 2,000 Yazidi women were captured and forced into sexual slavery when ISIS raided their territory in 2014.

“A lot of our women… are being held as slaves,” said Khatoon Khider, the brigade’s captain. “Their families are waiting for them. We are waiting for them. The liberation might help bring them home.”

Khider described the Force of the Sun Ladies as “an elite force and a model for other women in the region.”

“We are defending ourselves from evil,” she said. “We will do whatever is asked of us.
