Baby Asha will be sent to Nauru: Peter Dutton

By James Branson

In what must surely be an attempt to gain entry into the Guinness Book of Records under “biggest douche”, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has vowed to return baby Asha – the one-year-old daughter of a family of asylum seekers who came to Australia last month after suffering burns – back to the god-forsaken hellhole Nauru.

“I couldn’t be any clearer,” the Minister said. “Once the medical assistance has been provided and the legal issues resolved, people will go back to Nauru.”

Mr Dutton has also refused to take up New Zealand’s generous offer to resettle some refugees, describing it as a back door into Australia.

I’m inclined to agree with David Marr here, who on Sunday got mighty hot under the collar when discussing Australia’s brutal policy towards refugees – specifically our Government’s refusal to let them settle in NZ.

“This government is saying not one person can go to New Zealand because New Zealand is too attractive a country,” the ABC journalist said, before going onto (accurately) characterise the Turnbull Government’s attitude as being essentially, “your resettlement option has to be nasty”.

“This is a level of viciousness which I cannot believe this country supports … it is disgusting.”

Pretty much sums it up.
