By Sam Eacott
Prepare yourself for the one night fever dream of decadence and mind-altering celebration that is the Heaps Gay party to end all parties this Melbourne Music Week (MMW) Opening Night. Brimming with art of visual delight, awe inspiring performances and queer music across two stages until the wee hours, this is a party not to be missed. Spanning from 8pm early evening until early, get lost within the halls of the historic and renowned ACMI building which will be filled with the sounds of some of Australia’s most cutting edge music sensations. To get you prepped for the occasion we’ve given you a quick intro to some of the amazing artists below, sink your teeth in and we’ll see you on November 16. (oh and grab your tickets here before they sell out)
MUSICAL ACTS
VARIOUS ASSES
Boundary pushing bass musician Raquel Solier aka Various Asses provides crushing and high energy sets of exhilarating electronic craftsmanship. Taking inspiration from the broadest spectrum of sounds and talents, Solier pieces together exhilarating compositions with a political and social edge
MARIBELLE
Singer/songwriter/absolute goddess – Maribelle is all your pop dreams come true. Absolutely killing it over the last few years, her songs I’m A Mess Without You and Shout are bouncy jams that will have you in serious bop mode come November 16. Her appearance on Young Franco‘s latest single Girls Don’t Cry is a smokey disco track that will work its way into your high rotation Spotify column shortly after the first listen.
MZRIZK
MzRizk is that DJ you hear at a party and the following morning check socials for where they are playing next. Gracing the stages of Groovin The Moo and previous Heaps Gay’s, there is no rizk (we had to) of having a bad time when she is killing it on the decks. Melbourne based, she hosts her own radio show on the amazing RRR where she plays the freshest tracks amongst the old school classics to get you vibin with the airwaves.
KIRA PURU
Kira Puru is the one person party starter that has been setting the Aus music and festival scene alight with absolute corker tunes such as Molotov and Tension. Coming off the back of huge sets at Listen Out, she’s now set to tear about the opening night for MMW for what is sure to be a highlight of the entire god damn affair. Don’t believe us? Check out the absolutely bangin video for Molotov, complete with Zebra’s and attitude in abundance.
