TANYA PLIBERSEK SPEAKS OUT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY
By James Branson
Tanya Plibersek – the woman who might just lead Labour when Bill Shorten’s time at the top inevitably ends in tears – has made a passionate plea to end marriage discrimination in Parliament today, describing the proposed plebiscite as completely unnecessary.
“What’s even worse about this… is that even if the result of the plebiscite is overwhelmingly in favour of marriage equality, [MPs opposed to gay marriage] won’t be bound by it.”
“Young Australians do not deserve a damaging plebiscite that will tell them there is something wrong with being gay and lesbian… This is above love, and family, and the respect people have for one another.”
