KFC reverses decision to fire woman for being trans
By WIll Gray
A manager at a KFC store in Virginia (that’s in the good ‘ole USA, guys) has been given the arse for firing a woman because she was trans.
Georgia Carter, 27, says she was interviewed for a minimum wage job at the fast food retailer/merchant of deep-fried death and immediately offered a position.
“[The manager said] ‘You’ve got the job, I am going to start you out at $7.50 an hour. We are going to start you training on the computer now'”, she told ABC13.
However, things turned sour reasonably quickly when the manager realised Carter’s gender on her I.D was ‘male’.
“He was like, ‘My supervisor and I have a problem because on your license it says ‘male,’ but you’re…’ and I was like, ‘I’m transgender,'” Carter says.
Carter claims that she was told she couldn’t be offered the job because the powers-that-be at Virginia KFC were unable to determine which bathroom she could use.
Thankfully, KFC has announced that upon hearing of Carter’s hiring and firing, the company launched an investigation and fired the supervisor in question.
“The manager has been terminated for violating the franchisee’s anti-discrimination policy, which is inclusive of gender identity and sexual orientation,” KFC said. Carter, KFC said, has been offered a job “effective immediately.”
