DONALD TRUMP SAYS HE’D CONSIDER OVERTURNING SAME SEX MARRIAGE IF ELECTED

US Primary season – the time of year Americans select their candidates for the Presidential election in an incredibly confusing and byzantine manner – always brings out the crazies.

This time around, Donald Trump has brought an extra element of madness to the whole shebang.

Now, in an effort to bring conservative voters out in Iowa, which holds its caucus shortly, Trump has suggested he would appoint Supreme Court Justices who would overturn the 2015 ruling making same sex marriage legal in the United States.

“I can see changes coming down the line, frankly,” the Mexican-hatin’, wall-buildin’ billionaire told Fox News.

“If I’m elected I would be very strong in putting certain judges on the bench that maybe could change [the legalisation of same-sex marriage].”

To be fair, Trump doesn’t necessarily oppose gay marriage himself: like almost every issue, he’s been variously for it and against it, depending on whom he’s speaking with. In 2001 he was a supporter of Civil Union benefits, and when a Kentucky county clerk refused to issue a marriage licence to same-sex couples last year, Trump said she should have obeyed the law.

What Trump proposes is allowing individual states to create their own legislation on the issue… even though he told the Hollywood Reporter last year that fighting against the ruling was futile:

“…it’s not going to happen. Congress can’t pass simple things, let alone that. So anybody that’s making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it.”

As always, consistency isn’t Donald’s thing.
