The Choice Is Clear: LIBERALS LAST!

By Samuel Leighton-Dore

With less than a week until Australia votes, the line was well and truly drawn in the sand this afternoon.

A commitment to make marriage equality the first act of parliament by an incoming labor party has marked a clear divide between the two major parties this election, said GetUp in a press release this afternoon.

All-round bloody legend Sally Rugg, who also works as GetUp’s Campaign Director, said there was now the clearest of choices this election between a divisive plebiscite which panders to bigots and strong leadership.

“This is our choice: do we allow LGBTQIA+ people to be the target of vilification, degradation and humiliation by subjecting them to a national opinion poll on their rights, or do we choose strong leadership on this issue and a resolution in Parliament, like we do any other law.” She said.

“Malcolm Turnbull’s sorry excuse of a plebiscite on marriage equality shows he’s unable to stand up to the bigots in his party who remain shackled to prejudiced attitudes. Leadership is when you know what’s right and you get it done.”

While Newspoll results released today have looked a little bleak for the ALP, it’s super important to remember that these polls are basically nothing more than typical biased propaganda based on dodgy data. We can still win this thing, but a big part of that will depend on our placing the Liberals last.

“Right now, members of the coalition are even refusing to vote for marriage equality even if the plebiscite yields a successful result.” Rugg said.

“LGBTQIA+ Australians and their friends and family are sick and tired of waiting while the Coalition dither and delay. This election we have a clear choice. If you want marriage equality, the only way forward is to put the Coalition last.”

“Ending the discrimination that same-sex couples face will be an historic, joyous moment. We welcome Bill Shorten and the Australian Labor Party’s bold leadership on this issue.” She continued.

“This election, lets choose love over hate, and leadership over cowardice.”
