Poussey Gets Her Happy Ending!

Who could forget that devastating penultimate episode of Orange is the New Black’s most recent season, where the beloved Poussey Washington is unintentionally crushed to death by a prison guard during a peaceful protest?

It was perhaps the most tragic loss to grace our screens this year – especially when you consider how Poussey was totally in love with her girlfriend, Soso, and was starting to put her life together once she got out of Litchfield.

While Poussey is gone, the actress who plays her – the equally charming Samira Wiley – continues to live life in a big way. Today, hearts broke the world over when she announced that she is engaged to her partner of two years, Lauren Morelli.

Morelli and Wiley have a remarkable relationship. How they fell in love strongly resembles the original core storyline of Orange. Morelli is a head writer on the show, and was married to a man when she got the job. As she plunged deeper into the fascinating lives of Litchfield’s characters (many who are queer), she had a realisation that she was a lesbian. As soon as she came out, she announced her relationship with Wiley.

These lovebirds have always been deeply adorable. Open declarations of love are frequent on their respective social media feeds, and all they seem to do is cuddle their dogs, look glam on red carpets, and go on beautiful holidays.

Wiley announced the news today on her Instagram, with a snap of her wearing a sparkly new engagement ring and a caption that simply said “Yes.”
