Inner West Council Feel The Love This Thurs With Mardi Gras Reception

By Mikey Carr

Longtime allies of the LGBTIQ community, Inner West Council are once again throwing their Feel The Love Mardi Gras Reception party this Thursday at Petersham Town Hall.

Celebrating the beginning of Mardi Gras and organised by the Inner West Council LGBTIQ Working Group, this year will mark the event’s fifth birthday.

Following on from the amalgamation of Ashfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville councils into the Inner West Council, the theme for this year is “Get Connected” with the aim being to unite the LGBTIQ communities within the former council areas. Aiming to draw in as many of the community’s services and organisations the event will also feature a Get Connected Expo (download the application form here and email it to the council ASAP) showcasing local businesses and institutions.

The council will also mark the beginning of Mardi Gras by raising rainbow flags and banners on Balmain Town Hall, Ashfield Civic Centre and Newtown Neighbourhood Centre the next day, with a very special flag raising breakfast being held at Balmain Town Hall at 7:45am Friday 17th February. Essentially the Queer equivalent of the dawn service… except with better music.
