We went along early to hang with the YO! SISSY crew while they prepared for their Australian Debut at The Imperial Hotel, Sydney and had a little chat with Parker Tilghman, director of YO! SISSY Music Festival Berlin and drag performer Pansy.
“We aim to share the energy and diversity that is so unique to the Berlin underground with people from all over the world.” say Parker, whilst transforming into Pansy under the glow of naked bulbs. “YO! SISSY is a celebration of love, acceptance, and freedom of being.”
Along with their co-director Scout, Parker has been a fixture in the Berlin scene for many years and they came together to create the festival three years ago. In 2016 it was time to get it out there into the world. “We’re bringing some of our favourite artist’s from the Berlin and pairing them up down under with hometown favorites in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. YO! SISSY focuses on bridging the gap between established performers and up-and-coming superstars highlighting female and trans identified talent.”
Their Sydney event was nothing short of magical with performances from Dai Burger, Fritz Helder, local lovelies Sterogamous, vogueing from Slé, drag performances from Akashic_ and Heaps Gay sweetie Radha LaBia. Pansy & Scout took to the stage and fired up the room with their comic, political wit. YO! SISSY is everything you expect and more.
